Justice Baqir Ali Najafi of the Lahore High Court heads the bench
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court will take up the petition of Salman Akram Raja against his independent candidature in Feb 8 general elections today (Wednesday).
A division bench, headed by Justice Baqir Ali Najafi, will hear the case.
A day earlier, Raja challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision declaring him an independent candidate for Feb 8 polls, and filed the petition.
He pleaded the court to order the ECP to include his name as a PTI candidate in the ballot paper.
Raja's counsel Sumera Khosa stated in the petition that the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) had been registered as a political party in the ECP’s record since 1996. However, it was deprived of its electoral symbol ‘bat’ for not holding intra-party elections, but it still exists as a political party.
Raja is contesting election as a PTI candidate from NA-128 constituency.
